Reconnection

It has been a while. I am looking forward to some new opportuities teaching a new course in a Graduate Art Therapy program this fall. It is not new to the program, but new for me as the instructor. I anticipate it will be both a challenging and rewarding experience. Rewarding for me as it will be an excellent review of the creative, clinical, and theoretical foundations of our field. Challenging as some of the concepts for new students can be heavy, intense, and abstract. I imagine this experience to be very much like being born into the world... there is so much change from the comforts, safety, and containment of the womb. In this new place there are shadows, words, sounds, light, and many other experiences to learn while perhaps also feeling vulnerable. Trying to take it all in and digest it can be overwhelming. I guess that - in a sense - I must take on the role of good-enough mother/teacher creating a sense of safety and containment in the classroom, plant seeds, and encourage autonomy.
